National Reading Media Assessment (NRMA)
Website and Online Database Terms and Conditions of Use

By accessing this site, you acknowledge and agree to all of our terms, conditions and privacy policies below, and otherwise contained on or referenced in this site (“Agreement”). If you do not agree to this Agreement, you are not authorized to access this site. You also acknowledge and agree that we may modify this Agreement at any time, in our sole discretion; that all modifications to this Agreement will be effective immediately upon our posting of the modifications on this site; and that you will review this Agreement each time you access this site, so that you are aware of and agree to any and all modifications made to this Agreement.

The National Reading Media Assessment (NRMA) is a project of the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) and the Professional Development and Research Institute on Blindness (PDRIB) at Louisiana Tech University. This site contains the complete NRMA assessment in downloadable format, as well as a database for users to enter data online, store assessment results, and print assessment records.

This service is free of charge and is intended for use by Teachers of Students who are Blind or Visually Impaired (TVI/TBS); however, information gathered through this database will be used by the NFB and the PDRIB for research purposes and to assist in making educational policy decisions regarding the blind in the United States. For more information on use of student assessment data, see the privacy policy below.

The NFB and PDRIB have created this online database system for three purposes: (1) to make the use of the NRMA streamlined and universally accessible to teachers; (2) to conduct ongoing evaluation of the NRMA for continuing revisions and refinements; and (3) to collect data that will assist the NFB in developing evidence-based positions about educational policy.

By using this system you agree to provide access to the assessment results you input to the NFB/PDRIB administrative team. You may also be asked to participate in future research studies; however, participation in any such future research studies will be voluntary.

This site is password protected and all information will be kept securely in accordance with our privacy policy below.

In using this site, you will have access to your own profile and management interface where you can add new students, complete assessments, store, retrieve and print records. This database will create and track a computer generated ID number for each student, which will allow you to identify your students while protecting student confidentiality. You should make note of the student ID number outside of the NRMA database so that you remember which student it identifies. This computer generated ID number will be kept confidential.

The NRMA online database system is designed and intended to protect student data confidentiality per our privacy policy below. By using this site, you agree that you shall not disclose students’ personally identifiable information via the NRMA online database system. Any user who discloses such personally identifiable information without parental consent on the NRMA online database system may be in violation of the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA), Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (Act), and other federal and local laws. The NFB and PRIB assume no responsibility for such disclosures.

Site users are also subject to all other applicable state and federal laws that pertain to the management, storage, and release of student records.

Instead, the NRMA online database will generate a computer generated identification number for each student to enable educators to track individual student data while protecting student confidentiality. The computer-generated student identification number will be confidential.

Teachers, educators, and other users shall not disclose students’ personally identifiable information via the NRMA online database system. Any user who discloses such personally identifiable information without parental consent on the NRMA online database system may be in violation of the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA), Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (Act), and other federal and local laws.
